This tour combines the scent of history in one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world and the vitality of traditional commercial life. The journey begins atop the historic Erbil Citadel mound and ends in the alleys of the Qaysari Bazaar.
Erbil Citadel is considered a symbol of historical resilience, with its history dating back more than 6,000 years. The citadel witnessed the succession of civilizations from the Assyrians to the Islamic eras, while the Qaysari Bazaar represents the economic and social center.
The best time to start the tour is late afternoon to enjoy the sunset view from the citadel, then descending to the market when commercial activity is active. Entry to the citadel is free, but museums inside require a small fee.
Comfortable shoes for walking in the market alleys and climbing the citadel slope. A camera to capture architectural details. Cash for small purchases.
The site is located in the heart of Erbil city and is easy to access. The citadel is equipped with pedestrian paths, but some areas of the old market may be narrow and crowded.
