Only plan on treatment after a receiving clinic has confirmed it can meet your needs. We have not verified visitor dialysis places, prices or a nationwide booking service in Iraq. Do not assume you can arrange essential treatment after arrival.
- Discuss the trip with your treating specialist before booking. Ask your usual care team to help coordinate treatment with a clinic at your destination.
- For dialysis, start planning at least six to eight weeks ahead, as the National Kidney Foundation recommends. This is general planning advice, not an Iraqi booking deadline or a guarantee of a place. Ask the receiving unit to confirm each treatment date and whether it can provide your prescribed treatment.
- Ask which records and tests the clinic needs. Your dialysis team can send your treatment prescription, recent treatment records and test results for review. Carry copies of your medical records.
- Ask for written confirmation of appointments, costs and payment arrangements. Check explicitly whether insurance covers your scheduled treatment and existing condition, as well as unexpected care and medical evacuation.
- For other scheduled treatment, have your specialist and receiving clinician agree on arrangements before travel. If essential care cannot be confirmed, discuss postponing the trip with your specialist.
