Before you accept a self-drive rental, ask the company for the written policy or certificate and check what it covers. Confirm whether it covers damage to the rental car, theft, fire, injury or damage to other people and their property, and what excess or deductible you would pay. Ask about exclusions, including additional drivers, specific roads or destinations, and damage to tyres or glass. Check whether any separate accident or service fee applies, and what documents the company requires after a crash.
Do not rely on a general label such as "fully insured" without the policy details. Al-Wed Car Rental says its cars are insured against accidents, theft and fire, but also says renters pay an IQD 150,000 service fee for any accident and must obtain a police report. Before you pay, ask the company to confirm the cover and any exclusions in writing. For a car with a driver or a guided trip, ask the operator what cover applies to the vehicle and passengers; self-drive rental terms may not apply.
