No. For foreign travellers, your place of birth does not determine your Iraq visa eligibility. Iraqi immigration authorities determine visa rules by the citizenship of your passport, your destination jurisdiction, your entry point, and your purpose of travel. Iraq enforces its own border rules. Iraq does not adopt nationality exemptions from other countries based on where you were born.
Review these key rules before planning your trip:
- Passport citizenship. Your eligibility depends on the country that issued your passport. Being born in an eligible country does not grant you visa access if you travel on an ineligible passport. Holding an eligible passport grants you access even if you were born elsewhere.
- Iraqi birthplace. Official rules from the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq state that people born in Iraq who hold foreign passports do not require a visa. However, commercial airlines check passport nationality before departure. Airlines often require travellers born in Iraq to carry an entry visa to prevent boarding refusal.
- Consular fee waiver. Foreign passport holders of Iraqi origin can apply for an entry visa with fees waived through an Iraqi consulate. Applicants must submit proof of Iraqi origin, such as an identity card or nationality certificate from either parent.
- Destination jurisdiction. Entry into federal Iraq requires a visa through the official Iraqi Electronic Visa Portal or an embassy. Visas issued for the Kurdistan Region are valid only inside that region.
- Passport validity. Your passport must remain valid for at least six months from the date you apply.
