To apply for an Iraq visa at an embassy, submit your application to the consular mission responsible for your place of residence. If your nationality is eligible for the Iraqi Electronic Visa Portal, you can apply online without visiting an embassy. Travellers with unlisted passports, business trips, or official travel must use the consular process.
Follow these steps to complete an embassy application:
- Identify your consular jurisdiction. Iraqi diplomatic missions divide coverage by geographic region. Confirm which embassy or consulate general covers your home area before sending documents.
- Complete the official form. Type the requested information directly into the spaces on the official visa application form and print the completed copy.
- Gather required documents. Provide your actual passport with at least six months of remaining validity, a color photocopy of the passport data page, two identical passport photographs measuring 2 inches by 2 inches with a white background, and an active telephone number. You must also include an official letter explaining your travel purpose and stay duration, or an official invitation letter from a host organization in Iraq.
- Prepare supporting documents. Religious visa requests require a color photocopy of your driver license. Applicants claiming an Iraqi-origin fee waiver must include proof of parentage through an Iraqi identity card or nationality certificate. Foreign spouses of Iraqi citizens must include an authenticated marriage certificate.
- Submit paperwork and await approval. Deliver your application in person or mail it using a registered courier. Iraqi missions request 15 business days to process applications with authorities in Baghdad. Once the embassy receives official approval, it contacts you to submit your actual passport, the visa fee, and an addressed pre-paid return envelope.
