If your nationality does not appear in the dropdown menu on the official Iraqi Electronic Visa Portal, this is not a travel ban. It means passport holders of your country cannot use the self-service online portal and must use an alternative application route.
Before you apply elsewhere, check these factors:
- Confirm passport citizenship. Eligibility depends solely on the nationality of the passport you hold. Foreign residence cards, work permits, third-country visas, and your birthplace do not qualify you for the online portal. Iraq enforces its own entry rules and does not adopt nationality exemptions from other countries.
- Check your destination jurisdiction. The federal portal covers travel to Federal Iraq, including Baghdad and Basra. If you visit only the Kurdistan Region, the regional authorities manage a separate entry system with different rules.
- Verify your travel purpose and entry point. Online visas cover short tourist visits. Work, study, and official business require specific visas arranged through official sponsors.
- Apply through an Iraqi embassy. If your nationality is not supported on the online portal, submit a visa application to the consular section of an Iraqi embassy or consulate. You need an undamaged passport valid for at least six months, passport photos, and documentation of your travel purpose.
Consular visa processing times vary by embassy. For example, consular guidance from the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq advises allowing 15 business days.
