To apply for an Iraq tourist eVisa on the official Iraqi Electronic Visa Portal, you must upload a digital photograph taken against a plain white background. Official consular instructions from the Iraqi Embassy in Washington, D.C. define the standard Iraqi visa photo format as a recent front-view color photograph with a white background.
Photo standards for the online application
- White background. The portal explicitly requires a digital photo with a white background. Do not use dark, patterned, or colored backgrounds.
- Front-view portrait. Consular standards require a front-view photograph. Face the camera directly so your entire face is clearly visible.
- Recent color image. Upload a recent color photograph that matches your current appearance. Consular specifications set physical visa photo dimensions at 2 inches by 2 inches (5 by 5 centimeters).
- Clear digital file. Upload a clear digital file without blur or heavy glare. The portal summary does not publish special compression limits, so upload a clear, uncropped image.
Mandatory documents versus supporting travel documents
- Mandatory online application files. You must upload your digital photo with a white background and a clear color copy of your valid passport biographical page, and pay the visa fee online. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office notes that your passport must remain valid for at least six months from your arrival date and contain at least one blank page.
- Supporting travel documents. Keep a confirmed return flight ticket or onward ticket and your accommodation details ready for airline check-in and border control. Airlines can deny boarding without a return ticket. Print a paper copy of your approved eVisa to show border officers on arrival.
Follow the instructions on the screen and do not guess values for optional fields. As a practical suggestion, save a screenshot of your application reference and payment receipt. The official portal covers Federal Iraq, and diplomatic missions such as the direct foreign passport holders to it. Travel limited solely to the Kurdistan Region requires the separate regional portal.
