Pack sturdy hiking footwear, warm layers and a waterproof shell, water and extra food, sun protection, a headlamp with spare batteries, a first-aid kit, an emergency blanket and a map and compass you know how to use. This is a general mountain checklist, not a guarantee that a Halgurd route is safe.
Halgurd is near the Iranian border and retains some snow in summer, according to a 2015 site assessment. Ask an experienced mountain guide what additional equipment and training the planned route and current snow conditions require. Do not assume ice equipment alone makes a snowy ascent safe. Check the guide's experience and credentials, and confirm current access and any permissions with local authorities before making plans. Current route-specific permissions and conditions could not be verified.
Canada advises against all travel to Iraq and warns of unexploded weapons, particularly near the Iranian border. The UK says not all mined areas have warning signs. Take local advice, avoid unmarked trails and do not pick up metal objects. If route safety cannot be confirmed, choose another activity. Check current travel advice before departure.
