Avoid non-essential travel after dark. Canada's travel advisory specifically recommends avoiding going outside after dark because security conditions worsen at night. It advises against all travel to Iraq. Travelling in daylight is not a safety guarantee.
For federal Iraq, do not assume an intercity road journey or a Baghdad airport transfer is safe at night. UK advice warns that road travel is dangerous and Baghdad airport routes can close with little or no notice.
The Kurdistan Region is a separate regional context, not an automatic exception to these warnings. UK advice identifies attack risks there too, and warns that routes and airports can close at short notice.
If movement is unavoidable, seek a current route assessment and arrange secure transport in advance. For an airport transfer, use a pre-arranged vehicle or a trusted sponsor, not an unsolicited offer. Check local authority instructions before leaving. Curfews and vehicle bans can be imposed at short notice. We have not verified a current city-specific curfew.
