Step back in time to one of the world's best-preserved ziggurats, built over 4,000 years ago. This massive stepped pyramid was once the center of the ancient Sumerian city of Ur, birthplace of Abraham. The structure showcases the architectural brilliance of ancient Mesopotamia.
The Ziggurat of Ur was built by King Ur-Nammu around 2100 BCE as a temple dedicated to the moon god Nanna. It was the most important building in Ur, serving as both a religious center and administrative hub. The ziggurat has survived millennia thanks to its solid mud-brick construction.
