At Babylon, visitors can explore the reconstructed Ishtar Gate, the limestone Processional Way, King Nebuchadnezzar II's Southern Palace, the Lion of Babylon basalt sculpture, and a Hellenistic theatre. Saddam Hussein's former palace overlooks the site and palm groves along the Euphrates. Roughly 20 kilometers southwest of Hillah, Borsippa features the ruined ziggurat of the god Nabu, which pairs easily with Babylon on day trips.
