The Great Church of the Immaculate Conception, known locally as Al-Tahira, is the central landmark of Qaraqosh (Bakhdida), the largest Christian town in Iraq. After suffering heavy damage between 2014 and 2016, the cathedral was extensively rebuilt and restored, and it famously hosted Pope Francis during his historic visit to Iraq in March 2021.
