Visit one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam, the magnificent Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf. This architectural masterpiece features a stunning golden dome and intricate Islamic calligraphy. The shrine attracts millions of pilgrims annually and represents the pinnacle of Islamic art and devotion.
The shrine marks the burial place of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad, and the first Shia Imam. The current structure was completed in 1086 CE but has been renovated many times. The golden dome was a gift in the 17th century and has become an iconic symbol.
Dress very modestly - women must wear abaya and hijab (available at entrance). Remove shoes before entering. Non-Muslims welcome but should be respectful. Best visited outside peak prayer times. Photography may be restricted in certain areas. Visit during evening for spectacular lighting.
